Drums & Percussion
The studio feature's 2 drum kits either of which the drummer can use depending on his personal taste, playing style and individual requirements. Of course the drummer can use his own kit if he so chooses but the beauty of having a drum kit in the studio is that it is ready to record almost straight away, the heads are tuned and accustomed to the environment and saves our clients the hassle of having to transport a drum kit.
Gewa Rock Kit
The drum kit pictured above left is the kit favored by most metal/rock drummers. The birch shells partnered with Remo Ambassador heads produce a powerful attack and quick decay. the kit's shells are in 'studio' sizes- 22x16' kick drum, 10x8',12x10' and 14'12' toms which can be accompanied by any snare of the drummers choice.
Gretch Catalina Club Kit
The second drum kit available is made by well known drum manufacturers Gretch. This kit is favored by most jazz/blues or funk drummers. The mahogany shells and Evans G2 heads produce a very tight, punchy sound full of tone. Although the kick drum is only 16x16' it is well able to produce a tight bottom end with plenty of punch. the tom sizes are 12x8' and 14x12' for the floor tom.
Cymbals
We have an excellent selection of top quality professional cymbals available in the studio from Sabian, Zildjian and Paiste. Again most drummers will prefer to use their own cymbals but you can mix and match to your own taste. The cymbals are(from left to right) Sabian 14'' Medium High-Hat's, Sabian AA 12'' Splash, Sabian 14'' Medium Crash, Paiste Alpha Series 18'' Medium Crash, Zildjian Oriental 20'' China and Sabian 20'' Medium Ride Cymbal.
Snare Drums & Hardware
We have 3 very different snare drums to choose from each with it's own tone to suit different styles of music. Our first choice for metal and rock is the Gretch Catalina snare- at 14x5' this mahogany shelled snare drum is able to produce an incredible amount of power resulting in that classic rock snare sound. Our Pearl Masters BRX 14x5.5' birch shelled snare drum is excellent for more conventional material providing a bright crisp sound. It's die cast hoops allow it to reach much higher pitches than standard snare drums without choking. A Yamaha Steel Shelled snare drum is also available at the standard 14x5' size- these steel snares are excellent for cutting through mixes and are rich in overtones. Also available is a Pearl P101P Double bass pedal- it is one of the fastest pedals available and can of course be used in single mode. A motorcycle style Pear Druml seat is available to keep the drummer from fallling over (!) and all hardware can be tweaked to the drummers preference. |
